Bwala Denies Calling Tinubu a Drug Lord Amid Controversy

Daniel Bwala, a special adviser on media and communications, denied claims that he referred to President Bola Tinubu as a drug lord. He stated that such assertions were distortions originating from social media and amplified by mainstream news outlets without verification.

In an interview with New Central, Bwala addressed the allegations, asserting that his actual words were misquoted and taken out of context. He highlighted the fundamental flaws in government policy that have persisted over 30 years, but clarified that he did not specifically comment on Tinubu's tenure.

Bwala criticized the tendency of Nigerian media to treat unverifiable social media content as fact, urging journalists to adhere to editorial discipline and verify claims against primary sources. He also rejected the characterization of Tinubu as a drug lord during his time as a spokesman for Atiku Abubakar's 2023 presidential campaign, responding to skepticism from social media users regarding older video clips that circulated in response to the accusations.
