Adelabu Resigns from Cabinet to Pursue Oyo Governorship

Adebayo Adelabu, the immediate past Minister of Power, confirmed his resignation from the Federal Executive Council, asserting that he did so with the full approval and blessing of President Bola Tinubu. This statement was made public through his media aide, Femi Awogboro, who dismissed reports suggesting that Adelabu's resignation was against the President's wishes as baseless.

Adelabu's resignation letter, dated April 22, 2026, was addressed to the President's office and linked to his intention to seek an electoral position in the 2027 general elections. He officially resigned on March 31, 2026, following a directive issued on March 17, 2026, in accordance with Section 88(1) of the Electoral Act 2026.

Adelabu's decision to leave the cabinet is aimed at pursuing a governorship ambition in Oyo State, and he has urged critics to refrain from spreading unfounded claims regarding his exit.
