Saheed Osupa Faces Backlash for Juju Claims in Music

Saheed Osupa, a renowned Fuji musician, sparked controversy by disclosing his engagement with voodoo, referred to as "juju," to achieve success during a performance at the 52nd birthday celebration of veteran actor Fatai Odua on March 30, 2026. In a video, Osupa advised his backup singers to resort to voodoo for assistance, stating that many people secretly practice it while denying it publicly.

He defended his use of juju, claiming it is not inherently evil and that he does not harm others through it. However, his comments attracted sharp criticism, particularly from Islamic clerics, including Alagusii and Uwail Lukman, who condemned his assertions and urged him to return to faith in God for success rather than relying on juju.

They emphasized that engaging in such practices is disrespectful to God and contrary to Islamic teachings. Despite the backlash, Osupa did not retract his statements regarding juju during the performance.
