ASP Threatens to Shoot Nigerians Recording Police Officers

Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Newton Isokpehi threatened to shoot Nigerians who were videoing police officers during their duty, as shown in a viral clip. His remarks, which included the statement "we will clear everybody down," drew significant backlash from the media and human rights activists, including Harrison Gwamnishu, who condemned the comments and called for disciplinary action against Isokpehi.

Following the outrage, Isokpehi apologized, acknowledging that citizens have the constitutional right to record police officers performing public duties. He explained that his outburst was driven by frustration over the challenges faced by police personnel, including inadequate welfare conditions and the dangers of their work.

The Nigerian Police Force confirmed that administrative action had already been taken regarding the incident.
