Peter Obi Promises to Halt Campaign Over Bank Account Claims

Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, declared that he would halt his 2027 presidential campaign if any contrary evidence emerges regarding the funds in a First Bank account belonging to the Anambra State Government from his tenure as governor. This statement was made in response to claims by Governor Charles Soludo's administration, which stated it is repaying loans from previous administrations, including those of Obi and Willie Obiano.

State Commissioner for Finance, Izuchukwu Okafor, revealed that the current administration is focused on paying existing debts without taking new loans. In a viral video, Peter Obi asserted that during his governorship, he did not owe any salaries, pensions, or debts.

He mentioned that upon leaving office nearly 13 years ago, there was over 2 billion naira in the First Bank account, which was earmarked for ongoing projects. Obi emphasized his commitment to transparency, offering to provide account details to verify his claims.
