Wike's Aide Challenges Peter Obi on Anambra Debt Claims

Lere Olayinka, the Senior Special Assistant on Public Communication and Social Media to Nyesom Wike, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, has challenged Peter Obi, the Nigeria Democratic Congress presidential candidate, to cease his campaign following claims of outstanding debts from his tenure as Anambra governor from 2006 to 2014. Obi had previously stated he would stop campaigning if anyone could prove he left debts upon leaving office.

The Anambra State government, led by Governor Chukwuma Soludo, asserted that records indicate liabilities incurred during Obi's administration remain unpaid. Dr. Law Mefor, the Commissioner for Information and Value Reorientation, noted that the Soludo administration has cleared approximately ₦22 billion in gratuity arrears owed to retired state and local government employees and teachers.

In response to the evidence provided by the Anambra government, Olayinka questioned whether Obi would honor his promise to stop campaigning.
