Abia Governor Alex Otti Rejects Godfather Politics

Alex Otti, the governor of Abia State, stated he will not impose a successor after his second tenure ends in 2031, emphasizing that the next leader should be better equipped to provide quality governance. Speaking in Umuahia while receiving Ngozi Johnson-Chukwunenye, a former gubernatorial candidate from the Social Democratic Party, Otti expressed his disdain for godfathers, asserting he does not wish to be one.

He highlighted the need for leadership succession based on merit rather than a "sit-tight" culture. Otti assured that his administration focuses on good governance, which he believes will prevent a regression to poor leadership.

He reiterated his commitment to not seeking another elective position after his term and mentioned initiatives like the Abia Leadership Academy, which has graduated over 1,080 young people aged 16 to 25, preparing them for future leadership roles.
