IBB University Student Killed by Stray Bullet in Niger Land Dispute

At Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida University in Lapai, Niger State, a final-year student lost his life when caught amid crossfire from a land dispute in his native community. Enrolled in the Department of Public Administration, Isma'il Ishaq Magaji was struck by a stray bullet in Wawa within Borgu Local Government Area.

The university released an official statement on Saturday confirming these details. Anouncement of Magaji's death came through Alhaji Baba Akote, the Deputy Registrar for Information, who furnished the News Agency of Nigeria with the information.

The statement noted that when an armed dispute over land ownership broke out in his hometown, Magaji found himself in the line of fire. Prof. Mohammed Sulaiman, serving as Vice-Chancellor, expressed sympathy toward the student's family, companions, and classmates.

The death represented both a distressing occurrence and considerable damage to the broader university body, according to Sulaiman's response. He urged resolution through peaceful means regarding the underlying land conflict and offered prayers for Magaji's departed spirit.

Such fatalities highlight how Niger State continues to experience communal disputes centered on property claims, disputes which have sometimes turned deadly. Young Magaji's passing illustrates yet another victim claimed by such conflicts, depriving the university of a scholar approaching the completion of his degree.
