Osogbo Residents Protest Power Outages at IBEDC Office

On Thursday, residents in Osogbo, Osun State, protested at the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC) office due to ongoing power outages. The protest, which involved a march of nearly three kilometers to the IBEDC office, was led by Mr.

Badmu Akeem, who highlighted the deteriorating power situation in the area. Residents reported receiving only about four hours of electricity daily, far below the minimum expectation of 12 hours, which has severely impacted local businesses and daily life.

The community expressed concerns that the reclassification of their area has resulted in inadequate power supply, with suspicions that electricity earmarked for them is being diverted elsewhere. The protesters issued a seven-day ultimatum for IBEDC to restore power or face collective action.

In response, Mr. Ifeanyi Ikeji, the regional manager of IBEDC, acknowledged the challenges but urged caution, indicating that the decision-making factors behind the supply shortages are complex.
