ICC Approves Abuja Cricket Facilities for T20 Qualifier

The International Cricket Council (ICC) has expressed satisfaction with the cricket facilities in Abuja ahead of the 2026 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Africa Sub-Regional Qualifier C, which starts on Tuesday. Justine Ligyalingi, the ICC Africa Regional Manager, noted that the Nigeria Cricket Federation had made considerable improvements to the facilities since an inspection about four months ago.
Ligyalingi inspected the facilities on Monday and stated that the progress made has instilled confidence in the ICC regarding Abuja's capability to host the six-nation tournament. He acknowledged the extensive work done and affirmed that the facilities are suitable for the competition, which will see six countries vying for two spots at the Africa finals next year.
Ligyalingi also mentioned that while improvements have been made, further investment is necessary to sustain cricket development in Nigeria. The Abuja qualifier is the final sub-regional qualifying tournament in Africa this year, with the top two teams from previous qualifiers already securing their places.
