Nigerian Polo Association to Host World Championship Qualifiers

The Nigerian Polo Association (NPA) announced that it will host the World Polo Championship qualifiers in Abuja from November 9 to 16, 2026. NPA Chairman Suleman Abubakar revealed this during a courtesy visit to Malam Shehu Dikko, Chairman of the National Sports Commission (NSC).
Abubakar stated that Nigeria was granted hosting rights due to the NPA's efforts and the country's advancements in polo. This event is significant as it is the first time Nigeria will host the qualifiers in over 120 years.
The championships will occur at the Guards Polo Club, with participating countries including India, Iran, Pakistan, and Nigeria. Abubakar emphasized the need for support from the NSC to ensure the event's success.
Dikko expressed excitement about Nigeria hosting such a prestigious tournament and assured the NPA of the Commission's support. Additionally, the NPA is considering establishing a youth academy to develop young polo players.
