ICPC Recovers N24bn from Ghost Workers' Pensions

The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has recovered more than N24 billion associated with ghost workers' pensions and secured interim forfeiture orders for over 900 suspected ghost workers. This announcement was made by the ICPC Chairman, Dr Musa Adamu Aliyu (SAN), on Thursday in Abuja during the 4th Economic Confidential Lecture and 6th National Spokespersons Award 2026, organized by Image Merchants Promotions Limited (IMPR).

Aliyu stated that the Commission's anti-corruption efforts have expanded to identify and block systemic leakages in public spending, particularly in the payroll and pension systems. He revealed alarming cases of fraud, including individuals enrolling family members and private establishments as public workers to illegally access government funds.

The Commission has published the names of the suspected ghost workers, and after a year without any challenges, final forfeiture was granted, recovering over N100 million from their accounts. Aliyu emphasized the broader implications of such corruption on public resources and services.
