ICPC Recovers N5.79bn from Corruption in Six Months

The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) reported the recovery of N5.79 billion from corrupt individuals within the first half of 2026. This recovery is part of a broader initiative to safeguard public funds, strengthen institutional integrity, and promote transparency across public institutions.

The commission noted that corrupt practices undermine Nigeria's security architecture and divert critical resources meant for public service. During this period, ICPC received 271 petitions, assigned 234 cases for investigation, and successfully filed 25 cases in various courts, resulting in 20 convictions.

Additionally, ICPC conducted 33 system studies and 42 corruption monitoring exercises, and inaugurated 58 anti-corruption transparency units across ministries, departments, and agencies. The commission also expanded public enlightenment efforts, conducting 291 sensitization sessions that reached 199,291 participants nationwide and established 68 anti-corruption clubs to promote integrity among young Nigerians.
