ICPC Amends Corruption Charges Against Nasir El-Rufai

The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has amended the corruption case against former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai. This amendment was necessitated by the continued absence of co-defendant Amadu Suleiman, who is reportedly unavailable for medical reasons.

The court granted an application allowing the prosecution to proceed against El-Rufai alone. He has been re-arraigned on nine counts of various offenses, including corrupt practices related to the Advance Fee Fraud Act and the Kaduna State Penal Code.

El-Rufai has pleaded not guilty to the charges. The prosecution urged the court to fix a trial date to ensure the defendant's presence throughout the proceedings.

The charges against El-Rufai include allegations of receiving excessive payments and controlling funds linked to corrupt activities. The court has adjourned the ruling on a bail application until Tuesday, April 14, and El-Rufai remains in ICPC custody pending the decision on the charges.
