ICPC Convicts Ex-NECO Staff for Certificate Forgery

The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) announced the conviction of Abdulwahab Sule, a former staff member of the National Examinations Council (NECO), for certificate forgery. The High Court in Minna, Niger State, presided over by Justice Abdullahi Mikailu, found Sule guilty on three counts related to the dishonest use of forged documents.

Sule had used a fraudulent diploma certificate purportedly issued by Modibbo Adama University of Technology, Yola, to secure employment at NECO in January 2009, remaining in the position until his dismissal in September 2020. The court established that the certificate dated March 18, 2008, was not from the institution, as he had not completed the required studies.

During the investigation, Sule admitted to making false representations to NECO's Director of Human Resources in August 2020 and disclosed that he paid N30,000 to procure the forged certificate. The court sentenced him to 12 years in prison, with the sentences for the counts running concurrently.
