SMEs Urged to Embrace Digital Tax Compliance Strategies

Mr. Samuel Agbeluyi, the immediate past President of the Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria (CITN), advised Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) to adopt digital compliance under Nigeria's new tax regime. He delivered this advice in a paper titled “Navigating the Nigeria Tax Act 2025: Unlocking SME Growth, Digital Compliance and Incentivised Investments” at the annual conference of the Institute of Change Management (ICM) in Lagos.
Agbeluyi emphasized that digital compliance is essential as tax administration becomes increasingly digital, requiring businesses to shift their focus from merely paying taxes to being able to digitally demonstrate their tax positions. He recommended that enterprises establish automated invoicing, integrated ledgers, and a reliable digital audit-ready evidentiary database.
In his welcome address, Mr. Nat Beifoh Osewele, President of ICM, noted that organizations resistant to change may survive temporarily but will ultimately struggle. Mr. Kola Adesina, Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of Sahara Group, remarked that business excellence is achieved by navigating uncertainty with confidence and agility.
