Journalist Olawoy Alleges Threats from Minister of Works

Nigerian journalist Olawoy has publicly raised concerns for his safety, stating that if anything happens to him, the Minister of Works should be held responsible. This alarm follows the receipt of a cryptic WhatsApp message from a number later identified as belonging to the Minister.

The dispute reportedly stems from Olawoy's secret recording of a meeting related to the controversial Lagos-Calabar coastal highway project, which took place in August 2025. Protests against the realignment of the Lagos section of the highway project had previously occurred at the Federal Ministry of Works headquarters in Abuja, where Olawoy discreetly recorded the meeting due to fears that protests could turn violent.

The WhatsApp message accused Olawoy of secretly recording conversations and sharing them publicly. Olawoy insists that no financial issues are at play and that his life is at risk due to the controversy surrounding the federal government's flagship infrastructure project under President Bola Tinubu's administration.
