Tinubu Justifies Signing Electoral Act Amid Concerns

President Bola Tinubu addressed the rationale behind his approval of the Electoral Act during a meeting with leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) at the State House in Abuja. He stated that if he had serious concerns regarding the bill, he would have raised them.

Tinubu highlighted that the decision to sign the bill was guided by the necessity to respect the rule of law and to prevent unnecessary political arguments and unrest in the country. He acknowledged that the National Assembly passed the Electoral Act with significant support, indicating that it would have been challenging to oppose the decision given the large number of legislators backing the bill.

Despite some concerns raised about the legislation, Tinubu chose to adhere to democratic principles and respect the legislative process, asserting that once the law was approved, it became part of the political history of the country.
