Nenadi Usman Challenges Abure's Leadership in Labour Party

Nenadi Usman, a former Minister of Finance, has declared that if she wins, she will lead the Labour Party, directly challenging the current leadership of Julius Abure. This assertion follows a January ruling by Justice Peter Lifu of the Federal High Court in Abuja, which invalidated Abure's position as the national chairman of the Labour Party.

The court's decision, based on a Supreme Court verdict from April 4, 2025, recognized Usman as the valid leader and directed the Independent National Electoral Commission to acknowledge her leadership of the caretaker committee until the party's national convention. Despite this ruling, Abure's loyalists have refused to vacate their offices, exacerbating the leadership crisis within the party.

Usman emphasized the need for party members to prioritize unity and democratic processes to ensure the party's long-term survival, urging them to test their popularity in the forthcoming congress rather than fueling internal discord.
