Nenadi Usman's Faction Takes Over Labour Party National Secretariat in Abuja

Nenadi Usman's faction has taken over the Labour Party National Secretariat in Abuja, replacing Julius Abure's leadership. This change follows a court ruling that declared Esther Nenadi Usman as the valid leader of the party.

The Federal High Court in Abuja, in a judgment delivered on April 4, 2025, upheld the Supreme Court's decision recognizing Usman as the legitimate leader of the Labour Party. The court ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to immediately recognize Usman's caretaker committee as the valid representatives of the party pending the conduct of a national convention.

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) joined in defending the case, with Justice Lifu ruling in favor of Usman based on clear evidence presented in court regarding Abure's expired tenure as the national chairman of the party. The court's decision has led to the establishment of a caretaker committee for the Labour Party in line with the Supreme Court's ruling.
