IGP Addresses Ekpoma Protest, Denies Arresting Peaceful Demonstrators

The Inspector General of Police (IGP) has responded to the Ekpoma protest in Edo State, where 52 suspects were arrested. The IGP refuted allegations of arresting peaceful protesters, stating that those in custody were involved in criminal activities during the demonstration.

The incident has sparked controversy and public outrage, especially among parents of students from Ambrose Alli University. The suspects have been remanded in Ubiaja Prison, with the Federal High Court in Edo State overseeing the case.

The IGP warned against criminal behavior disguised as civic action and reiterated support for peaceful protests.
