IGP Disu Clarifies Police Unit Status Amid Disbandment Claims

Inspector General of Police (IGP) Disu has issued a statement denying reports that all police units and squads at the state level have been disbanded. The statement, released on Sunday through the Force Public Relations Office, acknowledged public concerns regarding police tactics.

IGP Disu clarified that while there will be a reduction in the number of tactical teams, with a maximum of five teams allowed at the zonal state command level and three at the area command division level, this does not affect the ability of state governments to create their own security outfits. He specifically mentioned that existing outfits such as the Lagos Rapid Response Squad and Oyo State's Special Response Squad will not be disbanded.

The directive aims to free up personnel for police stations and reduce complaints regarding the excess of tactical teams.
