IGP Disu Submits State Police Framework to Senate

On Thursday, IGP Disu submitted a 75-page document to the Senate, outlining a framework for establishing state police as part of ongoing efforts to decentralize policing in Nigeria. The submission was made to the Senate's office at the National Assembly and was presented by Ismail Mudashir, the special adviser to the media.

The framework, which was prepared under the guidance of Professor Olu Ogunsakin, head of the committee set to examine the modalities for establishing state police, is expected to reflect extensive consultations and professional insights. IGP Disu noted that the document includes strategic recommendations that consider operational, legal, and administrative implications of creating state police.

The report aims to contribute meaningfully to ongoing deliberations and assist in shaping balanced decisions regarding critical aspects of national security architecture. Senator Barau commended the IGP's proactive approach and assured that the committee would thoroughly examine the framework as part of the review of Nigeria's 1999 constitution.
