IGP Submits Framework for State Police to Senate Committee

On Thursday, the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Olatunji Rilwan Disu, presented a comprehensive 75-page framework for the establishment of State Police to Senator Barau Jibrin, who chairs the Senate Committee reviewing the 1999 Constitution. This submission is part of efforts to decentralize police operations in Nigeria.

The framework, titled "Comprehensive Framework for Establishment of State Police," outlines the operational modalities for state policing and includes insights and recommendations from various stakeholders. The IGP's report is expected to significantly contribute to ongoing deliberations and inform balanced decisions regarding national security architecture.

Senator Barau commended the IGP for his proactive approach in establishing State Police, which aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's agenda for a fully secured country. The Senate Committee will review the framework alongside other memoranda submitted as part of their constitutional review process.
