Abia Warriors Suspend Coaches, Appoint Ike Shorunmu

Abia Warriors have suspended chief coach Imama Amapakabo and assistant coach Bethel Oji due to allegations of insubordination. The decision, communicated in a letter dated May 11, 2026, and signed by chairman John Sam Obuh, follows a disappointing home defeat to Ahudiyannem FC during the FA Cup semi-final.

The management accused the coaching staff of ignoring directives regarding team selection and tactical changes, which contributed to the team's loss. Ike Shorunmu, a former Super Eagles goalkeeper, has been appointed to take charge temporarily during this turbulent period as the club aims to stabilize ahead of their final fixtures against Warri Wolves, with hopes of qualifying for continental competitions.

An investigation into the matter is ongoing, and the suspended coaches have been asked to cooperate with the panel.
