Ik Shorunmu Takes Over as Abia Warriors Interim Coach

Abia Warriors have suspended their chief coach, Imama Amapakabo, due to allegations of insubordination, effective immediately. The decision was communicated in an official letter dated May 11, 2026, signed by club chairman John Sam Obuh.

Amapakabo's suspension follows a disappointing performance during the FA Cup semi-final against Ahudiyannem FC, where he reportedly disregarded tactical advice regarding team selection. Ik Shorunmu, a former Super Eagles goalkeeper, has been appointed as the interim coach and will lead the team alongside the backroom staff until further notice.

The club has confirmed that an investigation into the incident is ongoing and has instructed full cooperation with the investigative panel. Shorunmu faces the challenge of stabilizing the team during a crucial period of the NPFL season, with hopes of returning to continental competition by the end of the season against Warri Wolves.
