Ikokwu Advocates for Responsible Storytelling in Media

Dr. Constance Ikokwu, a media analyst, delivered a lecture titled "Story Matters: The Power of Responsible Storytelling" at Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University, Igbariam, Anambra State.

She urged aspiring journalists to embrace ethical storytelling, stressing that media can either strengthen society or fuel destruction. Ikokwu highlighted that journalism goes beyond merely transmitting information; it shapes people's understanding of the world.

She referenced the 1994 Rwandan genocide to illustrate the dangers of irresponsible media, which can incite violence and mass murder. Ikokwu contrasted this with the media's role in the 2020 George Floyd incident, where sustained attention led to global protests against police brutality.

She cautioned that in the digital age, misinformation can spread rapidly, emphasizing the need for accuracy and context in journalism. Ikokwu concluded by challenging students to reflect on their values and the impact of their journalistic choices on society.
