Ikorodu City Upsets Rivers United in NPFL Title Race

On March 17, Ikorodu City achieved a significant upset by defeating Rivers United 1-0 at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena in Lagos, impacting the NPFL title race. The match saw both teams create opportunities but struggle with finishing.

The decisive moment came seven minutes into the second half when substitute Folarin Temitope reacted quickly to a rebound after Rivers United goalkeeper Rashid Owolabi spilled Salami Farouk's effort, allowing Temitope to calmly score and give Ikorodu City the lead. Despite late pressure from Rivers United, who made substitutions including Iyowuna Douglas and Timothy Zachariah, they could not equalize.

This victory secured three points for Ikorodu City, bringing their total to 48 points and placing them in third position, overtaking Nasarawa United. Rivers United remains at the top with 51 points, just ahead of second-placed Enugu Rangers, and are unbeaten in their last seven matches.
