Rivers United Falls to Ikorodu City in NPFL Match

In a rescheduled Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) match held at the Mobolaji Johnson Sport Arena in Lagos, Rivers United suffered a 0-1 defeat against Ikorodu City. The match, part of week 30 of the NPFL, saw a stalemate in the first half until Folarin Temitop broke the deadlock with a goal seven minutes into the second half.

This victory marked Ikorodu City's third win in their last six matches, following a 2-0 win against Niger Tornadoes on February 8 and a 1-1 draw against former African champions Enyimba in week 27. Despite this win, Ikorodu City had previously faced back-to-back defeats, including a 0-1 loss to Nasarawa United in week 29.

The defeat for Rivers United halted their aspirations for the title, leaving them with 48 points and trailing Enugu Rangers by one point. Rivers United has an outstanding match against Niger Tornadoes scheduled for Thursday, March 19, which could potentially open a four-point gap at the top of the table.
