Peter Obi to Challenge 2026 Electoral Act in Court

Peter Obi, a former presidential candidate and member of the Labour Party, declared his intention to challenge the recently passed 2026 Electoral Act in court, claiming it is an attempt to manipulate the outcome of the 2027 general elections. Obi described the new electoral law as a provision designed to facilitate electoral manipulation and undermine the credibility of future elections.

He accused the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) of overstepping its constitutional role by interfering in the internal processes of political parties. Obi emphasized that political parties should conduct their elections without dictation from INEC.

He criticized the new law for appearing to favor ruling parties in the upcoming elections and urged party members to intensify grassroots mobilization ahead of the 2027 polls. Obi also highlighted the need for political unity among opposition groups in the Southeast to build a strong coalition for the next electoral journey.

He pointed out the dire socio-economic conditions in Nigeria, urging collective efforts to improve the situation.
