Peter Obi to Challenge Electoral Act 2026 in Court

Peter Obi, the former presidential candidate and ex-governor of Anambra State, announced his intention to challenge the recently passed Electoral Act 2026 in court. He expressed concerns that certain provisions of the Act could adversely affect the conduct of the 2027 general elections.

Obi made this declaration during the flag-off of a membership mobilization and registration exercise for the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Awka. He believes that aspects of the law require judicial interpretation and indicated that legal action would be taken to clarify these provisions ahead of the next general elections.

Obi also called for the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to maintain neutrality in its electoral conduct and avoid interference in the internal affairs of political parties. He encouraged members to support the ADC and participate actively in the registration process.

The event was described as a significant step toward strengthening the party's political structure, with the first batch of membership cards distributed across 21 local government areas in Anambra State.
