ILO Adopts Convention for Platform Workers' Rights

The International Labour Organization (ILO) adopted a landmark convention focused on platform workers during the 114th International Labour Conference, which took place from June 2 to June 12, 2026, in Geneva. This convention aims to create the first international labor standards for work performed through digital labor platforms.

It addresses the rapid growth of the platform economy and the significant decent work deficit faced by platform workers, who earn income through applications connecting them with customers for services such as ride-hailing. The convention establishes a global framework to promote decent work across sectors, regardless of employment status, and covers a wide range of issues affecting platform workers, including labor rights, protection against violence and harassment, fair remuneration, social protection, and greater transparency in algorithmic decision-making.
