NSITF Prioritizes Gig Economy Workers at ILC in Geneva

During the 114th session of the International Labour Conference in Geneva, Barr Oluwaseun Faley, the Managing Director of the Nigeria Social Insurance Trust Fund (NSITF), addressed the significance of prioritizing platform workers and the gig economy. He discussed the implications of artificial intelligence (AI) on labor rights and the necessity for human-centered AI policies to protect jobs and workers' rights.

Faley acknowledged the evolving nature of work, particularly with the rise of remote and platform-based jobs, and stressed the importance of defining appropriate measures to support these workers. He noted the need for discussions among relevant stakeholders to establish clear guidelines regarding workplace injuries for platform workers.

Faley commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for establishing the Ministry of Communications and Digital Economy, asserting that innovation in the digital space must not overlook the rights and protections of workers in the gig economy.
