Otti Addresses Gratuity Issues for Abia Senior Citizens

On Thursday, during a live broadcast commemorating the 35th anniversary of Abia State, Governor Alex Otti addressed the injustices faced by senior citizens, particularly retired civil servants, due to unpaid gratuities that have persisted for over two decades. He expressed regret that these individuals were denied their rights and suffered hardships as a result.

Governor Otti announced that his administration has initiated the payment of accumulated gratuity arrears starting from 2001. He also emphasized that moving forward, any civil servant retiring will receive their gratuity immediately upon completion of necessary documentation.

Otti stated, “The old practice of denying retirees what is due them will no longer obtain,” indicating a commitment to rectify past injustices while focusing on future improvements.
