Seun Okinbaloye Defends Press Freedom Against Wike's Threat

Seun Okinbaloye, a journalist and anchor for Channel Television, publicly addressed comments made by Nyesom Wike, the Federal Capital Territory Minister, who suggested that Okinbaloye could be shot for his reporting. In a segment on Channel Television's "Politics Today" program, Okinbaloye stated he would not shy away from the truth and emphasized the need to hold those in power accountable, highlighting the dangers facing Nigeria's democracy.

Wike later clarified that his comments were figurative and not intended as a direct threat. Okinbaloye also discussed the political landscape ahead of the 2027 elections, expressing concerns about the African Democratic Congress's (ADC) ability to contest due to internal crises.

He made these remarks during a media chat in Abuja, reinforcing the importance of a free press in a democratic society.
