Uganda Arrests 62 Nigerians in Immigration Crackdown

On April 27, 2026, a coordinated operation in Uganda resulted in the arrest of 231 foreign nationals, including 62 Nigerians, as part of a crackdown on illegal immigration and criminal activities. The operation, based on credible information from the public, was conducted in the Adjumani, Bukoto, and Ntinda areas of Kampala.

Simon Peter Mundeyi, spokesperson for the Uganda Ministry of Internal Affairs, stated that the Nigerian suspects were allegedly operating a church business without valid work permits. They are currently being held at the Namanve facility and are undergoing legal processes that could lead to deportation, fines, or blacklisting.

Preliminary investigations revealed that some individuals entered the country under false job offers, while others are believed to be linked to online fraud-related offenses. The operation also included the arrest of 169 other foreign nationals from various countries, reaffirming the Ugandan government's commitment to enforcing immigration laws.
