Uganda Arrests 231 Illegal Immigrants, Including 62 Nigerians

On April 27, 2026, Uganda's Ministry of Internal Affairs conducted a coordinated operation that resulted in the arrest of 231 illegal immigrants, including 62 Nigerians. The operation, led by intelligence, targeted individuals suspected of criminal activities related to illegal migration.

According to spokesperson Simon Peter Mundeyi, the Nigerian suspects were allegedly operating a church business without valid work permits and are currently being held at the Ministry's facilities for legal processing, which may include deportation, fines, or blacklisting. Preliminary investigations revealed that some suspects were lured to Uganda with false job offers, while others are believed to be linked to online fraud.

The operation also led to the arrest of 169 foreign nationals from various countries, including Pakistan, India, Bangladesh, Ghana, Myanmar, Ethiopia, Sri Lanka, Cambodia, and Malaysia. The Ugandan government reaffirmed its commitment to enforcing immigration laws and urged landlords to exercise caution when renting to non-citizens.
