Uganda Arrests 62 Nigerians for Illegal Church Operations

On Wednesday, the Ugandan National Citizenship and Immigration Control (NCIC) announced the arrest of 62 Nigerians for operating a church illegally in Uganda without the required permits. Simon Peter Mundeyi, spokesperson for the Ministry of Internal Affairs, stated that the arrests followed a tip-off regarding individuals engaging in illegal activities while posing as gospel preachers.

The suspects are currently being held at the Ministry's Namanve facility, where they will undergo legal processes that may result in deportation, fines, or being blacklisted. Earlier investigations indicated conflicting accounts from the suspects, with some claiming they were lured to Uganda under the pretense of job offers, while others were linked to online fraud and related crimes.
