Imo Political Parties Reject Local Government Election Plan

The Forum of Political Parties State Chairmen in Imo State has publicly opposed the proposed local government election, alleging that the state electoral authorities plan to conduct the election without a valid timetable and the necessary statutory notice to political parties. In a statement issued on October 3, 2023, the forum criticized the scheduling of the election with only two weeks' notice, calling it a breach of electoral procedures.

The Coordinating Secretary, Hon. Uzor Agaptus, questioned how an election could be conducted without proper communication to political parties. He accused the electoral authorities of attempting to use a backdated memo to misrepresent the election's notice.

The forum plans to seek legal redress to stop the election and warned that any individual declared chairman through this process would face judicial scrutiny. They also called for an investigation into electoral officials involved in these alleged violations and urged political parties to unite against what they consider an unlawful electoral process.
