Imo Political Parties Threaten Legal Action Over Polls

Political parties in Imo State have expressed their intention to challenge the upcoming local government elections in court, alleging that the electoral process has been compromised due to insufficient notice. The forum, represented by Hon. Uzor Agaptus, the Coordinating Secretary, criticized the electoral authorities for scheduling the elections with barely two weeks' notice, which they claim violates established electoral procedures.

Agaptus questioned the legitimacy of conducting elections without a formal timetable or adequate communication with political parties. He accused the Imo State Electoral Commission of attempting to use a backdated memo to misrepresent the notice given for the elections.

The forum stated that they would seek legal redress individually and collectively, warning that any elected officials through this process would face judicial scrutiny. They also called for an investigation into electoral officials for violating procedures and urged political parties to unite against what they termed an "electoral jamboree.".
