Emir Sanusi II Calls for Poverty-Reducing Policies in Nigeria

Emir Muhammadu Sanusi II, during a conference in Kano, urged Nigerian leaders to implement policies aimed at reducing poverty and improving the living standards of citizens. He highlighted that economic policies should be assessed based on their impact on the welfare of the people, stating that ineffective policies do not enhance welfare.

Sanusi called on leaders to learn from history and strengthen institutions that promote justice, emphasizing that no country can build a better future without addressing unresolved issues such as insecurity, corruption, poverty, and poor infrastructure. He criticized politicians for engaging in selfish politics and urged them to focus on serving the people, advocating for power-sharing that ensures credible competition.

Additionally, he appealed for unity and tolerance among Nigerians, regardless of religion or political affiliation, to collectively build the country. Sanusi noted that despite progress since independence, Nigeria continues to face challenges such as political instability, ethnic and religious tensions, insecurity, and economic hardship.
