Two Arrested for Impersonating NDLEA Agents in Abia

On a Wednesday, the Abia State Police Command announced the arrest of two men, Anthony Kelechi (41) and Bright Abraham (42), for impersonating agents of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA). The arrests occurred after a viral video circulated on social media, depicting the suspects in plain clothes physically assaulting a handcuffed commercial tricycle rider in Umuahia.

According to Maureen Chinaka, the police spokesperson, the suspects are believed to be members of a social advocacy organization promoting awareness against drug abuse. However, they allegedly used this platform to cover their illegal activities, which included extorting money from the public under the guise of enforcing drug laws.

The police have initiated a discreet investigation to ensure diligent prosecution of the suspects and have cautioned the public against taking the law into their own hands. The Commissioner of Police, Danladi Isa, reiterated the commitment to protecting lives and property and urged residents to report any suspicious activities to the nearest police station.
