Makarfi Urges National Emergency Over Nigeria's Insecurity

Ahmed Makarfi, the former Governor of Kaduna State and ex-chairman of the People's Democratic Party (PDP), has called on President Bola Tinubu to declare a national emergency in response to the worsening security situation in Nigeria. Speaking to journalists in Kaduna, Makarfi warned that the country's security challenges require extraordinary measures and a unified national response.

He criticized the current administration's handling of security issues, stating that insecurity undermines economic development and social stability. Makarfi urged political leaders to avoid politicizing insecurity, emphasizing that the challenges affect all Nigerians regardless of political affiliation.

He also addressed the upcoming 2027 elections, insisting that political parties must comply with the Independent National Electoral Commission's guidelines to participate. Makarfi expressed confidence in the PDP's future, advocating for unity and respect for due process among its members.

He also indicated his support for younger leaders, as he approaches his 70th birthday in August.
