Onuigbo Becomes First African President of GLOBE International

Rt Hon Sir Sam Onuigbo has been appointed as the first African president of GLOBE International, a global legislative organization focused on environmental governance. This appointment comes as the UK Parliament prepares to host the inaugural Nigeria Climate Investment Summit from June 23-26, 2026, during Climate Action Week.

Onuigbo, a former member of the House of Representatives and current Vice President for Africa at GLOBE International, will deliver an inaugural address at the organization's 35th anniversary event in the UK Parliament on June 24. His leadership is expected to enhance Nigeria's role in global climate discussions, particularly following the enactment of Nigeria's Climate Change Act in 2021.

Malini Mehra, Chief Executive of GLOBE International, has expressed support for Onuigbo's leadership, emphasizing the importance of Nigeria's climate legislation. Onuigbo has been recognized as one of the top 30 global climate action leaders and has been inducted into the Parliamentary Hall of Fame.
