FG Inaugurates Committee for National Security Strategy

On Wednesday, the Federal Government of Nigeria inaugurated a committee tasked with preparing a comprehensive National Threat Assessment and a rolling Five-Year Strategic Defence Operations Plan. The committee was inaugurated by Senator George Akume, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, on behalf of President Bola Tinubu.

The committee has a mandate to submit the two documents within 90 days for the President's consideration and approval. Akume emphasized the importance of professionalism and urgency in the committee's work, noting the need for a strategic framework that effectively anticipates and responds to complex security threats.

He stated that the assessment would provide a thorough understanding of Nigeria's security landscape, distinguishing between immediate threats and emerging challenges. The Five-Year Strategic Defence Operations Plan will translate the threat assessment into prioritized operational requirements and will be reviewed annually to adapt to new threats.
