Ex-Corps Members Urge FG to Boost NYSC Funding

The Association of Former Members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), in collaboration with civil society organizations in Nigeria, has called on the Federal Government to urgently increase funding for the NYSC and rehabilitate its orientation camps. This appeal was made under the Reform NYSC Campaign (RNC) and was jointly signed by Coordinator Comrade Godsown Aigbe and spokesperson Princess Mariam Idris.

The RNC emphasized that improved funding and the rehabilitation of orientation camps should be government priorities to ensure effective youth development and national integration. They highlighted that many camps lack essential amenities such as adequate accommodation, water supply, healthcare, and sanitation.

The groups urged a comprehensive assessment of all camps and a phased rehabilitation program to meet national standards. They also called for improved budgetary provisions to support corps members' welfare, including allowances and healthcare.

The RNC warned against reforms that could increase operational costs without addressing existing challenges, stressing the importance of strengthening the NYSC's structure.
