NYSC Advocates for Better Welfare of Corps Members

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) renewed its call for stronger collaboration with employers to enhance the welfare, safety, and professional development of corps members during the 2026 NYSC Corps Employers’ Workshop held in Umuahia, Abia State. Brigadier General Olakunle Nafiu, the Director General of NYSC, represented by NYSC State Coordinator Alhaji Yunusa Tanimu, emphasized the theme “Fine Tuning Stakeholders’ Collaboration to Enhance Corps Members’ Welfare and Workplace Experience.” He highlighted the importance of partnerships among government institutions, employers, and host communities for the future relevance of the NYSC.

Nafiu acknowledged employers' critical role in shaping the service year experience and outlined their statutory obligations under the NYSC Act, including providing suitable accommodation, transportation support, and access to healthcare. The Chairman of the NYSC Abia State Governing Board, Sir Nwaobilor Ananaba, urged employers to treat corps members with dignity and respect, noting that some workplaces still expose them to poor treatment.

He reaffirmed the commitment of Governor Alex Otti's administration to improving corps members' welfare.
