Nigerian Abubakar Kyari Named IFAD Chair in Rome, Pledges Rural Development Commitment

Abubakar Kyari, a Nigerian senator, has been appointed as the Chairman of the 49th Governing Council of the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) during the council's meeting in Rome, Italy. Kyari emphasized a commitment to inclusive strategies focusing on rural development and food security.

He acknowledged the challenges faced by the global food system and pledged to work towards empowering farmers and ensuring no rural community is left behind. Kyari commended the outgoing IFAD Chairman, Christoph Schiltz, for his leadership and dedication.

He also praised the visionary leadership of President Bola Tinubu in transforming agriculture in Nigeria. Kyari expressed gratitude to IFAD's leadership and committed to upholding the organization's mandate.

The appointment was made with the approval of new members and the definition of strategic directions to enhance IFAD's global impact.
