India Rejects Tinubu's Ambassadors Over Tenure Issues

India and other nations have declined to accept certain ambassadorial nominees from President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's administration, citing concerns regarding the short tenure of these diplomats. Specifically, the Indian government has a policy against accepting ambassadors whose terms are less than two years, which affects the nomination of Muhammad Dahiru as Nigeria's ambassador to New Delhi.

This development was confirmed by multiple high-ranking officials within the Nigerian Foreign Service on Tuesday. The rejection of nominees is not limited to individual candidates but reflects broader uncertainties surrounding the current administration's tenure.

As of now, the Nigerian government has begun receiving signals from New Delhi indicating reluctance to grant approval for the nominees. President Tinubu had previously approved 65 ambassadorial nominees on March 6, including notable figures such as Femi Fani-Kayode for Germany and Reno Omokri for Mexico.

However, the fate of 63 nominees remains uncertain, with only two confirmed for the United Kingdom.
