Nigerian Christian Arinz Sentenced to 20 Years for Drug Trafficking

Christian Arinz, a Nigerian national, was sentenced to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment by a special court in Ahmedabad, India, after being found guilty of drug trafficking. The conviction occurred on a Wednesday following an investigation by India's Narcotics Control Bureau, which led to Arinz's arrest on September 3, 2021, at Ahmedabad Airport.

He was apprehended upon arrival from Dubai with 2.75 kilograms of heroin, which was intercepted during a search operation. Alongside Arinz, his Zambian accomplice, Hanchabila John, also received a 20-year sentence and was fined Rs 200,000.

The court emphasized the seriousness of the crime, and the Narcotics Control Bureau urged citizens to report any narcotics-related activities through a helpline, assuring that their identities would remain confidential. This conviction comes amid a broader context of Nigerian nationals facing legal issues abroad, with reports of 93 Nigerians arrested in Ghana for alleged fraud and human trafficking.
